C+G Explores: The Silos Accommodation
Tucked into the rolling hills of the Eurongilly Valley, just outside of Junee, The Silos Accommodation is a love letter to land, heritage and design. Dreamed up by sixth-generation farmers Amber and Nick Heffernan, this once-humble 1960s grain silo is now a luxurious off-grid retreat for two—complete with sweeping views, a wood-fired hot tub under the stars and a king bed dressed in Carlotta + Gee linen.
But this isn’t your average farm stay. Every element—from the entry space to the spiral staircase and window placement—has been carefully considered to heighten your connection to the surrounding landscape. Expect a bath-for-two with a private valley view, a loft bedroom for stargazing and interiors that wrap you in warmth with natural tones and textural finishes.

Sustainability is seamlessly woven into the experience too. The Grain Loft runs entirely off-grid—powered by a solar array, insulated for comfort and serviced by a low-impact worm-farm septic system. It’s connected to the rhythms of the land in the best possible way: generous, grounding and quietly spectacular.
We caught up with Amber to learn more about how they brought this bucket-list stay to life—from shovel-in-hand beginnings to hot baths and slow mornings in the Riverina.
Tell us your background story of how you and your husband decided to renovate a silo and transform normally a work location on the farm to a luxury stay?
We have always felt privileged to be able to call this place our home. It has been a dream of ours for over 20 years to work out a way to share with others what we do on our farm, explaining the how and why we do it.
The silos had been on top of the hill in Flowerdale, the paddock's name, since the 1960s. Having one of our properties' best views looking down over the Eurongilly valley.
Shoveling grain out of the old flat bottom Lysaght silos is hard work. The view and the history of the structure, the silo, just made perfect sense to us. As they have been there for such a long time, the silos have become a part of the landscape. This meant we didn’t have to alter the landscape too much.
We enlisted a great team with Sarah Lebner of Cooee Architecture Tooma, Jarrad Higginson of J&J Building and Construction Wagga Wagga and the crew, who together helped us to make this dream take shape.

What was the inspiration for The Silos Accommodation? It is so unique..
The curved structure of the silo gives a feeling of warmth that we felt a square build wouldn't deliver. It surrounds you like a warm hug. When thinking of transforming the silo we knew it had to be luxurious. Simple glamping style accommodations are common, but this level of luxury, on a farm setting, offgrid in a repurposed solo silo. Well, that is something different.
You have added a hot tub to enjoy while watching the sunset - how romantic - what else can the guests enjoy?
Outside guests can take a stroll along the farm lane which runs through the centre of the property, they can enjoy the view, wildlife and livestock.
There is both a woodfire inside and a fire pit outside.
We have an extra large bathtub for 2 which offers views and soaking regardless of the weather and season.
We offer Meet the Farmer tours with Nick, guests can get the opportunity to be directly involved in the day to day process of running the farm as well as have all of their questions answered.
